Tips for buying used gear with built-in tech

  • Autosteer and guidance unlocks: many receivers and displays need software unlocks (e.g. accuracy level or autosteer activation). Ask whether they're tied to the serial number and whether the maker allows transfer to a new owner. Get it in writing.
  • Correction subscriptions: RTK or satellite correction services are usually separate subscriptions. Check what's active, when it expires, and whether it transfers or must be bought again.
  • Firmware and compatibility: note the display and receiver firmware versions. Check with a dealer that they're still supported and work with your other gear (ISOBUS, implements, your existing displays).
  • Your data: make sure the seller removes their farm boundaries, maps and accounts, and that telematics or cloud accounts are transferred or cancelled. Ask for yield and coverage data only if it's useful and permitted.
  • Cameras and sensors (spot sprayers, drones): ask for calibration records, camera or nozzle test results, and drone flight logs. Check drone registration and remote-pilot rules with CASA.
  • Before you pay: inspect in person or get a dealer to, check the PPSR for money owing, and get a receipt listing the included tech by serial number.
